Tarzan: Crossover Style!
Chapter Eleven: Letting go

                Night fell when Nelliel had brought Inuyasha to the treehouse built by his parents in Whale Forest. At first, Inuyasha seemed confused. Still, as he ventured inside and looked around, he saw something inside an old truck: his old baby blanket.


                The half-demon picked up the blanket, getting a whiff of its scent, and then realized it was his. He looked around, his memories of the old treehouse beginning to return. However, at this time, everything had vines and moss due to age.


                Inuyasha flinched when he heard a crunching noise. He glanced down and saw that he had stepped on an old photograph. He picked it up and wiped off the dust, and within the frame was an old photograph of himself when he was a baby, his father, and his mother.


"...Is this me?" Inuyasha asked, looking at his infant self, and Nelliel silently nodded. "And...this guy is my Father...and this woman is...my..."


His eyes went wide as he finally began to put two and two together before looking at Nelliel, who sighed.


"...Now you know," she whispered, "Inuyasha...I want you to be happy. Whatever you decide."


                Inuyasha watched as the Ibex Mink left the treehouse. Next, he looked back down at the photograph of his parents and himself as a baby.


                Nelliel sat outside of the treehouse feeling morose, more so than she had ever been. The sound of her adopted son's footsteps made her ears prick straight up, for she heaved a sigh, bracing herself for what his decision would be.


She turned, and she saw Inuyasha wearing samurai armor, his hair tied up in a topknot, and a sword in his belt.


                Nelliel had her hand lightly covering her lips as tears burned through her eyes. Inuyasha, feeling nothing but the utmost sympathy, could only embrace his mother, who threw her arms around him as she sobbed.


"No matter where I go," Inuyasha began, "You will always be my mother."


(A/N: And don't you forget it!)


"...And you will always be in my heart...!" Nelliel whispered, hiccuping.


                In the back of her mind, she knew this day would come. She knew that Inuyasha would have to choose between living in Zou or leaving to live among humans. That didn't mean it would hurt any less.


The two stayed like that for almost the whole night. At that moment, Inuyasha broke away from Nelliel and held her hand.


                As he took his leave, he slowly released her hand, leaving her to watch him go tearfully. One thing was for sure: Nelliel would deeply miss her son.


"Goodbye, Inuyasha," Nelliel whispered.
