The Lion King: Crossover Style!
Chapter Four: The Spirit Kings of the past

***That evening***



   Isshin, Ichigo, Rukia, and Ebisu are on their way back home. The whole time, each of them were quiet. Ichigo and Rukia's heads were lowered, feeling ashamed. Ichigo, moreso, because he disobeyed his father. Ebisu looked back at them, feeling a sense of pity for the two children despite the way they had tricked him.


"Ebisu!"


Ebisu yelped in surprise and slight fright when Isshin called his name before he ran to the Captain's side.


"Y-Yes, Captain?" he asked.


"Take Rukia home," Isshin ordered. "I have to teach my son a lesson."


   Upon hearing this, Ichigo gulped nervously and hid in the tall grass, but he knew it was all for naught. He was already in trouble. Ebisu nodded before walking over to the children.


"Let's go, Rukia." he said, before turning to Ichigo. "Ichigo."


He sighed as he placed his hands on the boy's shoulders.


"Good luck, kid."


With that, he took Rukia and left. As they were leaving, Rukia looked back at Ichigo.


"Ichigo!" Isshin called, causing the orange-haired child to flinch.


   Knowing his father was beckoning him, Ichigo walked toward Isshin with great hesitance. As he walked, he suddenly felt his foot drop into Isshin's footprint. He gulped at how deep it was...though, he still kept walking until he was right by his father's side.


A pause came...but then, Isshin sighed and looked down at his son.


"Ichigo Kurosaki," he began, "there are no words to describe how disappointed I am."


"I know..." Ichigo muttered.


"No, you don't!" Isshin barked. "You could've been killed, Ichigo! You deliberately disobeyed me, and what's worse! You put Rukia in danger!! Oh, and your mother! She almost had a premature birth because she freaked out so badly when she found out where you were!! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!!"


Ichigo began tearing up at how foolish he had been.


"I wanted to be brave like you, Dad..." he answered, voice breaking.


   Isshin was silent for a moment, until he said, "Ichigo, I'm only brave when I have to be. And another thing...being brave doesn't mean you go around looking for trouble."


"But Dad, you're not scared of anything."


"...That's not completely true..." Isshin replied.


"Really?" Ichigo asked, surprised.


"Yeah." the Soul Reaper Captain answered. "I thought I was gonna lose you."


"...Oh," Ichigo murmured, realizing. "I guess even Soul Reapers can get scared, too, huh?"


"Mm-hmm." Isshin nodded.


"But you know what?" Ichigo asked with a smirk.


"What?" Isshin asked.


"I think those dumb arrancars were even more scared." the boy whispered.


Isshin chuckled.


"That's right," he spoke up. "'Cuz nobody messes with your old man! C'mere you!"


He pulled Ichigo into a headlock and proceeded to give him a noogie.


"Oh, no, no!!" Ichigo cried. "Ah!! Urgh!!"


   He managed to pull himself out of his father's grasp before tackling him to the ground. Isshin just laughed as his son chased him around, only to tackle him again.


"AH! HE'S GOT ME!!" Isshin cried. "SOMEBODY HELP!! HAHAHAHAA!!!"


Ichigo laughed as he and his father wrestled for another minute or so.


"Hey, Dad,"


"Yeah?"


"We're pals, right?"


"Right."


"That means we'll always be together, right?"


Isshin looked at Ichigo...before he sighed and sat up with the boy sitting on his shoulders.


"Ichigo," he began. "let me tell you something that my father once told me a long time ago. 'Look at the stars. The Great Spirit Kings of the past look down on us from those stars'."


"Really?" Ichigo asked in awe.


"Yup." Isshin answered. "So, whenever you feel alone, remember this, they will always be there to guide you. And so will the current Spirit King and I."


Ichigo smiled before he gave his dad a hug, which Isshin returned.
