Borra: The Avatar's Guidance
Chapter Five: Hidden Darkness

(I do not, nor will I EVER, own The Legend of Korra. This series belongs to Bryke.)

The bandits riding their motorcycles circled Korra and Asami, laughing and hollering.

Korra grunted as she tried to keep the baby in her belly calm. "Take it easy in there," she whispered.

The infant settled down upon hearing his mother's voice.

The bandits parked their motorcycles, surrounding Korra and Asami.

"Step away from the gold, ladies," spoke the leader, "and you won't get hurt." He looked over at Korra. "Especially you...I don't think even I would hurt a pregnant girl."

'Seriously?!' Korra thought. 'I was told nobody would notice!!'

(A/N: You were lied to, Korra!)

"Sorry to disappoint you, but we're taking this gold back to Ba Sing Se," Korra replied.

"Aww, we love gals with spirit," responded the leader as he approached Korra, "suit yourself."

With that, he went in for the attack.

"Just because I'm pregnant doesn't mean I can't fight back!" Korra shouted. Using her earthbending, she raised the ground, sending a couple of bandits flying.

The other bandits tried to retreat, but Korra proved to be too quick for them, for she used her earthbending to put a stop to them.

One bandit tried to strike Asami down with his club. However, she soon charged back and took him out herself. Another bandit was riding a motorcycle and heading toward Asami, but an earth wall knocked him back. Asami looked to her right to see that Korra was the one who erected the stone barrier.

Just then, another bandit picked up a sack of gold with his spear. Korra was able to blow him and his buddy away with a powerful gust of wind.

Asami ran at one more bandit, who tried to stab her with his spear, but she leaped into the air as she did a flip over the two men riding on their motorcycle, and shocked the one holding the weapon with her glove.

The leader got back on his feet and tried to hit Korra with several kicks, but the Avatar struck him with her earthbending again.

The man got back up and ran towards the armored truck. "Retreat! Retreat!" he called to the other bandits. As the others followed him, the leader turned and glared at Korra. "You're on the wrong side of this fight, Avatar," he called, "That gold belongs to the people, not the queen!"

Rubbing her growing belly, Korra asked, "Why do I get the feeling that he's right?"

(A/N: Because he is?)

Asami looked at Korra in concern before she put her hand on her shoulder.

"Maybe you should get back on the ship," she suggested, "This stress isn't good for either of you right now."

"All right," Korra complied as she and Asami took the gold back to the airship, "I think all this fighting has the baby more active than I'd like, anyway."

In her womb, the unborn child was moving around.

"Calm down in there," Korra spoke, rubbing her belly.

The baby ceased moving around, much to his mother's relief.

At Tu's apartment, Mako and Bolin ate dinner with the family and Haku and Huanle.

"This is so great!" Bolin exclaimed. "We never had a family before! Now we've got one, two … five … eleven …" he trailed off as he tried to count everyone within the crowded room. "A BIG family! Yeah!"

"So why did Dad leave Ba Sing Se?" asked Mako.

"Oh, he always had big dreams," their uncle answered, "he couldn't wait to get out and see the world. Your grandfather thought it was ridiculous because he wanted San to stay home and work the fruit stand. But San was determined to leave. They had a huge fight, and that was the last time they ever spoke."

"That's harsh," Haku murmured morosely.

"They never got to reconcile their differences …" Huanle added.

Bolin and Mako's uncle noticed that this was upsetting Yin.

"Oh, um … sorry, Mom." he apologized.

She didn't seem to pay it any mind, for she looked to her grandsons. "Come with me," she told them, "I have something to show you. Haku, you and Huanle can come too if you like."

"Okay," Haku complied as he got up, "C'mon, Huanle."

Huanle followed Yin, Bolin, Mako, and Haku to whatever Yin wanted to show them.

Yin had led the boys into a room where she took out a box.

"What's in there?" Haku asked.

"The only letter we ever got from San," Yin answered as she patted the sofa, gesturing for Bolin to sit next to her, "it said that he married a beautiful woman from the Fire Nation, and they had two wonderful sons."

The boys sat beside their grandmother, with Haku sitting on Bolin's lap.

"He sent this picture of you all on his birthday," Yin added. She pulled out a photograph of Mako and Bolin as kids, with a man wearing a recognizable scarf and a woman standing beside him.

"Look, Mako," said Bolin, "Dad's wearing your scarf."

"That's your Dad?" asked Haku. "No wonder you look so handsome, Bolin!"

"Aw, stop!" Bolin rubbed the back of his head, blushing. "You're making me blush!"

"I'm so sad that I never got to meet your mother," added Yin as she looked at Mako, "but … you have her eyes. I know from looking at you that she must have been a wonderful bride for my boy."

Mako looked at his scarf, removing it from his neck. "I'm sure they would want you to have this." he draped his scarf around his grandmother's shoulders.

Yin smiled before she hugged Mako, who returned her embrace, and soon after, Bolin and Haku joined in, too. Even Huanle nuzzled himself against Yin's cheek.

At the Earth Kingdom Royal Palace, Korra recently returned.

"Your Majesty, the Avatar has returned with the tax payments," Gun announced with Korra beside him.

"Finally," spoke Hou-Ting, "secure it in the vault."

"It's getting done as we speak," Gun replied.

"So now, Your Majesty, if I could start meeting some of the Airbenders here in the city?" Korra asked.

"The Dai Li thoroughly searched the city, but it seems your reports were incorrect," Hou-Ting answered, "there are no Airbenders in Ba Sing Se. So, you can gather your little band and be on your way tomorrow."

That was when Korra snapped.

"You lying bitch, you make me do your dirty work, extorting your own citizens for your stupid palaces and topiaries! And then you just wanna send me away?!" the Avatar yelled as Hou-Ting glowered down at her while Gun's teeth chattered nervously. "We're not going anywhere until we find some Airbenders! We know there are some here!"

"Get her out of my sight!" the queen ordered.

Gun was about to escort Korra out, but she beat him to it. She turned back around, knocking the grand secretariat back again as she pointed at Hou-Ting.

"This isn't over!" Korra shouted. "I'm gonna find the Airbenders!"

She stormed out of the throne room soon after. As she did, though, she flinched a bit as she felt her baby moving around inside her.

"Easy there, little guy," Korra soothed, rubbing her belly, "Sorry … guess I got worked up again, didn't I?"

Her child squirmed a bit inside her womb as if to say yes.

Korra sighed before she smiled. "You don't have to worry," she reassured the little one, "I won't let anything happen to you or me."

Back with Mako, Bolin, Haku, and Huanle, they were still chatting with Chow.

"You know, San would've been so proud of you guys," he noted, "Traveling the world with the Avatar? He would've loved that!"

"We need to get back to the Avatar in the Upper Ring," Mako added, "We're supposed to be helping her find Airbenders in Ba Sing Se." Bolin nodded in confirmation of this.

Although, hearing that Bolin and Mako were searching for Airbenders with Korra earned shocked gasps from their relatives.

"What? What happened?" Bolin asked.

"One of our neighbors started Airbending about a week ago," his uncle answered, "a couple of days later, two Dai Li agents came out of nowhere and snatched him up. No one's seen him since."

"They say the Earth Queen's locking up all the Airbenders up somewhere," Tu piped, "and she's using them for experiments."

"Tu, don't talk like that about Her Majesty." Yin scolded, then she blew a kiss to a picture of Hou-Ting and cupped her hands in prayer. "Long may she reign."

"The Earth Queen is nothing but a tyrant!"

Everyone glanced down at Haku, who balled his hands into fists.

"Young man!" exclaimed Yin. "How could you even think of speaking of Her Majesty in such a way?!"

"Because it's true!!" barked Haku. "Everyone is miserable because of her! She doesn't care about what happens to her people! All she ever cares about is herself!!"

"Haku …" Bolin whispered.

"How can you be so blind to the suffering of your fellow citizens?" Haku asked Yin. "I mean, look at your family! You're practically living in a single room! Where do you use the bathroom?! Outside?!!"

"That's an excellent question." Huanle pointed out. "Where do you use the bathroom?"

Yin was speechless.

"You may not agree with me, but at least I know what's right and wrong! And I bet deep down, you know it, too!"

"Okay, that's enough, Haku!" Mako butted in, putting his hands on Haku's shoulders.

"But Mako—"

"I said, that's enough. You made your point."

Haku soon eased up.

"At any rate, we have to get back to the Upper Ring and tell Korra about the Earth Queen," Mako added.

As they were leaving, Bolin grabbed some food before he went.

"I hope Kai is okay," he piped up, concerned.

"Me, too," admitted Haku. Despite all that Kai had done, he still cared about him.

A man was walking through town when a sudden gust of wind blew his coat up, and his hat fell to the ground. At that point, Kai picked up his hat.

"Here, sir," he gave him his hat, "let me help you."

As the man took his hat back, Kai turned and walked away, holding a sack of gold in his hand.

He entered an alleyway, yet he stopped dead in his tracks upon seeing a Dai Li agent at the exit. Kai began sweating as he turned to leave, only to spot another Dai Li agent behind him.

He made a break for it, but the Dai Li earthbent their rock gloves at him, stopping him in his tracks.

"Hey, what's going on?!" Kai questioned, dropping the sack of gold. "I didn't do anything! I'm with the Avatar!"

Kai, wearing different clothing, was thrown into a dark room by the Dai Li agents. He sat up to glare at them, and as he did, he also noticed other people in the room.

"Welcome to Her Majesty's army," spoke a Dai Li agent, "First Airbending Regiment. From now on, you live to fight for the Earth Queen."

Kai gasped silently, anxiousness all over his face as the door closed.

Korra & Bolin take in an orphaned child.

Again: There is no Makorra. And there is no Boleska.

This is an Alternate Universe where Korra and Bolin become more than friends, etc.

Things are not all that they seem.

I didn't have time to write up a story for Mother's Day, so instead, I'm posting chapter five, which is sort of mother-heavy?

Know what? Forget it. Just take what you get. Happy Mother's Day.

EDIT: I need to tweak this.

The whole crew was on their way to Ba Sing Se.
Korra, Tenzin, and Haku watched as Bumi Jr. sparred with Kai during their trip.
"C'mon, Kai!" Haku cheered. "You can do it!"
"Light on your feet, Uncle Bumi," Jinora instructed, "Remember, you want to be quick and evasive."
"Don't worry about me, little lady," replied Bumi Jr., throwing punches, "I've been in a scrap or two, you know. Haha."
He looked back at Kai.
"Oh, you're just a youngster," he told him, "so I'll go easy on ya. Wouldn't want to hurt a kid."
Big mistake.
Kai ran up, slid on the floor, and sent an air blast at Bumi Jr.'s legs, knocking him over!
"All right!" Haku cheered. "Way to go!"
"Uncle Bumi, you've got to work on your stance changes," Jinora spoke as she and Kai helped Bumi to his feet, "Kai, that was just … really good."
"Thanks, Jinora," Kai replied, rubbing th

At Tu's apartment, Bolin, Mako, Haku, and Huanle were waiting with the brothers' family.
"I got it!" Tu exclaimed, bursting into his apartment, holding three passports. "These passports should get you into the Upper Ring."
"Awesome!" Bolin smiled. "Tu, you're the best cousin a guy could have!"
Though, upon hearing Bolin's words, everyone in the room frowned, thinking that Bolin was choosing favorites.
"And my other cousins, as well," Bolin added, trying to make the situation less awkward, "yeah. Yeah, you're all the best."
"Thanks," Mako spoke to Tu as he, Bolin, and Haku took their passports, "I know this wasn't easy."
"If only we could repay you, somehow," lamented Haku.
"There's no need," replied Tu, "The fact that we got to see you is enough."
Haku smiled up on Tu.
"It's such a shame you three must leave so soon," Yin spoke.
"I wi

Sorry I was late, busy with work and other side projects.

Anyway, I love this rendition of Book 3 Episode 3, Korra and Asami fends off some bandits while defending the gold, even though Korra is PREGNANT. Nice!!!

I actually like the internal communications between Korra and her baby.

What I find this interesting was that Haku shouted out in front of Yin as well as Mako and Bolin and their extended family regarding the Earth Queen being a complete tyrant. Finally someone says it!!! Yeah, although I like that somewhat comedic scene of Yin worshipping Hou-Ting's image, I was like, wake up woman! That queen never cared everyone but herself. Also, similar to Haku, like had you seen the state of Ba Sing Se? Seriously Haku just read my mind.

Also love Huanle's interaction with Mako, Bolin, and their extended family. I don't know, he's just so cute.

And Kai still being Kai, until he got captured by the Dai Li along with the rest of the kidnapped Airbenders under the Earth Queen's orders. Ugh.

Overall, great work, hope to see more!
